• No library doesn't mean no reading!

Posted by Lindsey Crosby on 4/3/2020

Hey guys I miss you all so much! I can't wait to FINALLY get to see you again and hear about all of the GREAT books you've been reading! I know you guys will have a list ready of new books I need to order when we get back!! Until then, I'm including a list of websites you can use at home to read books. Some of them you may recognize as ones that we have used during library time!

My 3rd and 4th graders should go check out storylineonline....remember that's where we first met Guji Guji which quickly became a favorite! These are read-along stories, but there are also activities they suggest you could do with these stories Lots of famous actors and actresses lend their voices to make these stories come alive!

Until I can see you again, I'm sending you a big air hug.....and just know the books and I are missing you and can't wait to see you again!

Students are doing a great job working on their 2nd AR goal. So far we have 36 students who have meet their 2nd AR goal!  Don’t forget you can check on your child’s progress with the username I sent you at the beginning of the year.  For this AR party, we will be watching a movie with snacks provided! Students have until December 13th  to meet their AR goal!

Also, encourage your child to keep working on the “Book-It” forms. Students can earn a free pizza coupon EACH month through this program.

BOOK FAIR is just around the corner. This year our book fair will be November 18th-22nd. Remember this is a great fundraiser for the library to be able to get new books for the students. Teachers will create “Wish Lists” for their classroom library. Keep in mind this would make a GREAT Christmas gift for your child’s teacher! More information about the book fair will be sent home next week.

Ask your child about the “Book-It” program where they can earn a Pizza Hut coupon for a FREE personal pan pizza (no purchase necessary) monthly. This program runs from October through March.

Our school is also participating with schools across the state in the “Be a Champion, Read” program. Students will read 6 books and complete the “Be a Champion, Read” form. Once you sign and return it to the library, we will submit an entry on behalf of your child for a chance to win tickets to the Iron Bowl. This contest will end October 31st.

Parents, as always thanks for helping your child with their library books so that they will be ready for the AR tests!

  • GHES 3rd Graders Welcome Reading Buddies!

Posted by Lindsey Crosby on 9/10/2019

Each 3rd grader at GHES had the privilege of adopting a special reading buddy! The students were able to choose which buddy they wanted and what they wanted to name it.  Once all of the students selected their buddies, Mrs. Dumas talked to the students about taking care of their reading buddies by reading to them at least 15 minutes every night. This was such a fun experience for everyone involved. We are so excited to be starting this program at GHES!

I hope you have had a chance to check on your child’s AR progress through the Renaissance Home Connect.

Keep in mind you want your child to have at least half of their points by mid-term progress reports (Sept. 12th).   This will keep your child from feeling rushed at the end of the 9 weeks!

I’m sure by now your child has told you what we are working towards with this first AR goal. Students will earn a FREE ticket with a paid adult to the CCHS football game on October 11th.  Students will also get to take the field and run through the spirit line behind the Bulldogs!!

Also, keep in mind at Award’s Day in May, students who meet their AR goal all 4 nine weeks will be recognized and receive a medallion.  We have to start working towards this goal now!

Thanks for helping your child with their library books so that they will be ready for the AR tests!

Last day for students to meet their AR goal is Oct.4th!
